I own a microshare in this 2yo boy, Power Up Paynter, who broke his maiden this afternoon at Aqueduct in New York, going 6.5 furlongs.
After two thirds and a fourth in maiden special weight company, trainer Linda Rice said Power Up Paynter needed softer competition and entered him in a 40k maiden claimer, which means someone else could have claimed (bought) him for $40,000, which was highly unlikely. He went off as the heavy favorite at 6-5, because of the class drop and his speed figures, and was expected to be on or near the lead throughout.
Instead, PUP got pinched at the start and looked completely disinterested, running last of eight down the backstretch. He also looked like he was "climbing" a bit, with high action, like he wasn't liking the texture of the track. It wasn't until midway around the turn that he started to pass tiring horses, and then his jockey switched him from the rail to six wide entering the stretch. And then he was late switching from his left to his rested right leading leg. Yet, after all that, he pulled away easily to win.
I've started buying affordable microshares in racehorses last July, and now own in seven horses, most of which haven't started yet. Of those that have, there's been seven total starts with PUP the only one who has finished in the first three, and now he's a winner!
