Something wonderful happened with an old client....
I've had three clients who have been with me since the first year of my bookkeeping business some 22 years ago. Last September, one got annoyed with me about something, but all seemed well through finishing up 2018. He was a monthly client on a flat fee, but had started emailing his paperwork every two or three months, rather than every month. So, in April of this year, I nudged him to get me paperwork for the first quarter of 2019. No response.
In the ensuing silence, it seemed rather obvious that he'd "made a change", as the saying goes, and found another bookkeeper. Oh, well.
Yesterday, out of the blue, I get a message from him that he needs to get me all the paperwork to catch up 2019. Whoo hoo! So, when I return from next week's vacation, it'll take me about a day to get caught up, since his stuff is so familiar to me, and be able to charge eight months of flat fees all at once. That's quite an unexpected little windfall!
Also, under the heading of "found money", I came to my vacation checklist that I needed to make sure I had some cash with me, just in case my credit card ran into a problem. I thought I had a $50 bill hidden under some papers in a tray. Looked through the papers, then realized I wasn't finding the $50 because I'd already taken it the last time I ran out of cash in my wallet. But got to the bottom of the tray and... there was a stack of $20 bills! Twelve total. I have no recollection of when I put that money there, or where it came from. Could have been years ago. No trip to the bank is necessary. That was fun!
