It's been a long week, waiting for the weekend.
The weekend should end with an answer to the biggest TV question since 1980 and "Who shot J.R.?" Every one of the millions of Yellowstone fans has been wondering for two years, "Why does Beth hate her brother Jamie so much?" I mean, really intense hatred. We're supposed to find out Sunday evening, when the fifth episode of the third season airs. There's been lots of speculations -- and I've had my own ideas -- but the people behind the show have been saying that fans are going to be pretty shocked. And it's something so heart wrenching that there will never be any forgiveness.
Thankfully, I'll have plenty of other things to anticipate before Sunday evening. We have three horses on tap to race. We did have four, but after taking entries on Wednesday for the weekend, Del Mar near San Diego up and canceled races for ten days, because most of their jockey colony is testing positive for COVID, though no one is sick. So, no racing there this weekend.
We still have our Derby-bound boy, Authentic, in the Grade 1 Haskell in New Jersey, which he's heavily favored for. We also have a youngster, Mo Mischief, debuting at Saratoga, and he's favored for that race.
Then, on Sunday, the super consistent Power Up Payner is on tap at Saratoga. There's a small chance he could be scratched in favor of a Grade 3 stakes next Friday. That's up to the trainer to decide.
We also have our oldest horse, the 4yo filly Amandrea, entered to run Tuesday at Lone Star in Texas. That track up and shut down nearly two weeks ago due to COVID, and they've been pretty tight-lipped about their intentions to resume racing. But since they're taking entries, they presumably intend to be back running by Tuesday.
So, it's been a pins and needles week, and it's always possible that any track can abruptly shut down due to a COVID scare. In the meantime, I'll just be in "squee!" mode.
