I Want to Marry Him!

Updated: Aug 22, 2020

I don't care that he's missing some boy parts.

Our 3yo gelding Power Up Paynter gave such a thrill this afternoon at Belmont Park on Belmont Stakes day. He was racing in the last race, which was for NY-bred non-winners of two races, and at six furlongs on the grass. It was his first start off a layoff, during which he was gelded, so hard to expect much, and his only other race on the grass had been his debut, when he threw his rider in the post parade and ran off before the start. That's the only poor effort in his eight-race career.

He went off at 15-1 in a field of twelve. Was back early, running true to his odds. Then he started to get interested on the far turn, but appeared to be just passing horses that were lesser than himself. At the top of the stretch, his jockey started to pull him to the outside, but another horse was there, so he directed PUP to the inside, and PUP was suddenly vying for third. And then he just accelerated like some kind of bad ass and ran down the horses in front of him. Thrilling beyond belief. He looked so powerful, and won pulling away.

Just beyond words. Such a thrill when so little was expected of him. Bet six bucks and got back nearly ten times my money.

Since the MyRacehorse group bought into him after his debut, PUP has raced seven times with two wins, two seconds, a third, and two fourths. Such a cool horse. Now it looks like he could have a really wonderful future on the grass.

Yeah, I'd marry him.
